Greg Raymer, aka “Fossilman", is a 40-year-old husband and father. Married to wife Cheryl for over 10 years, they have a daughter named Sophie. Born in 1964 in Minot, North Dakota, Greg was an Air Force brat. When Greg was just a few months old, Greg's father ended his military service, and moved the family back to Michigan where he was from. Greg grew up in Lansing until the age of 11, when we moved to the Clearwater, Florida area. After a few years, the Raymer family moved to the suburbs of St. Louis, where Greg spent his high school years at Parkway South High School.

Greg was 28 years old in 1992 when he finished school and started his first permanent job as a patent attorney working for a big litigation law firm in Chicago. Greg worked here for 3 years before deciding that he did not like litigation. He ended up working for another law firm in San Diego for 3 years where he specialized in Biotechnology patent preparation and prosecution. After a few years, he ended up accepting a position with Pfizer at their research facility in Groton, CT. He stayed with this job until just after winning the WSOP in 2004.

While in school in Minnesota, Greg made extra money by playing blackjack as a card counter at the various Indian casinos in the state. On one occasion, while looking for a blackjack game, Greg found a poker game, and played for fun. He enjoyed the game and started playing 3/6 limit poker in Chicago. Greg then decided he wanted to improve his game and investing in some poker books. Today, he recommends the David Sklansky book “The Theory of Poker" which helped him lay the groundwork for all his future poker education.

Now a professional poker player, Greg works for PokerStars.com, as one of their sponsored players. Greg travels the world playing in many of the major poker tournaments in the world.
